What it is¶
Muse is a model family from Meta Superintelligence Labs. Muse Image generates and edits images, while Muse Video remains a preview.
- Image generation from conversational prompts
- Image editing on uploaded or generated files with markup
- Reference combination across multiple inputs, using web or coding tools
- Content Seal provenance on images made in Meta AI
Meta announced app and web access for Muse Image. It has not announced a public Muse Image API or a Muse Video release. Use Muse Image as an in-product workflow, not as a production video or developer API dependency.
Development line¶
- 2026-07-08 — Muse Image, Muse Video, and MSL announcement. Meta AI published an announcement on 2026-07-08 identifying Muse Image, Muse Video, and MSL. The release introduced named components of the Muse project without technical specifications, capabilities, or availability details.
What changed¶
- 2026-04-08 — Muse Spark introduced the Muse model family and supplied the reasoning and tool-use layer for Muse Image.
- 2026-07-07 — Meta launched Muse Image and previewed Muse Video. Muse Image became available in Meta AI and selected Meta surfaces, while video remained forthcoming.
- 2026-07-10 — Meta removed the public Instagram account @-mention reference feature after feedback. It is not current workflow guidance.
How to use this¶
Treat Muse Image, Muse Video, and MSL as a dated development line from 2026-07-08. Check the primary announcement for access details and capabilities before adoption.
- Open Meta AI in the app or at meta.ai, describe the image in plain language, and generate from scratch or an uploaded photo. — Introducing Muse Image
- For an edit, use the markup control to circle, sketch, or annotate the area. State the change and continue the conversation for refinements. — Introducing Muse Image
- For a composition, attach reference images and state the roles, scene, and style together. Muse Image supports multiple references in one prompt. — Introducing Muse Image and Muse Video
Best practices¶
- Combine direct markup with a specific edit instruction when altering one area. This gives the tool a target region and an intended result. — Introducing Muse Image
- Treat Instagram public-account @-mentions as unavailable. Do not design workflows around them. — Introducing Muse Image
- Check Content Seal when provenance matters. Do not assume it covers third-party or non-Meta images. — Introducing Muse Image and Muse Video
Superseded by this¶
- 2026-07-10 — Guidance to use public Instagram-account @-mentions as visual references is obsolete. Meta withdrew the feature.
Still unknown¶
- Country-by-country availability, pricing, generation limits, and a public Muse Image API remain unannounced by first-party sources.
- Verified release workflows for Muse Video; Meta still describes it as a forthcoming preview.
- Regional rollout details outside Meta AI, meta.ai, US Instagram Stories, and limited-country WhatsApp for the 2026-07-08 announcement (noted from Meta’s July 7 release, source date 2026-07-07: Introducing Muse Image and Muse Video).
- Reasoning and tool-use integration specifics for Muse Spark beyond its 2026-04-08 launch in Meta AI and meta.ai (Introducing Muse Spark).
- Replacement reference features after Meta removed public Instagram account @-mentions on 2026-07-10 (Introducing Muse Image).
