What it is¶
Google Vids is a Workspace video app alongside Docs, Sheets and Slides for storyboarding, recording, editing and exporting video.
- Help me create drafts scripts, scenes, media and voiceovers.
- Google Slides import turns presentation decks into video scenes.
- Recording captures camera feeds and screen shares directly.
- Veo clips and avatars generate AI scenes and presenters.
- Comments and MP4 export support team review and sharing.
Videos run up to 30 minutes; Veo clips run 8 seconds at 720p, 24 fps and 16:9; AI access depends on account type and administrator settings.
We find it more practical than Adobe Premiere Pro for onboarding, training and project updates, but not for frame-by-frame professional editing.

How to use this¶
As of 2026-04-04, treat the Google Vids documentation link as a lead for investigating a possible Veo integration. Do not rely on it as evidence of a specific product change until we review the original post and dated documentation.
- Open vids.new, pick a format and start with Help me create, a template, Slides, recording, upload or a blank video.
— https://support.google.com/docs/answer/15082958?hl=en - For an AI draft, describe the goal and attach relevant files with @; verify the suggested script, scenes, media and voiceover.
— https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/14819770?hl=en - Add or replace scenes with recordings, uploads, Veo clips, text and transitions; describe the subject and scene in detail for Veo.
— https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/14819770?hl=en - Grant teammates view, comment or edit access; export MP4 to Drive, download the file or publish to YouTube.

Best practices¶
- Pick the starting path by source material: Help me create for prompt and docs, Slides import for finished decks, recording for demos, and templates for recurring formats.
— https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/15599399?hl=en - Attach source files with @ before drafting, then check the script, scenes and voiceover before publishing.
— https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/14819770?hl=en - Plan Veo segments as short cutaways: one clip is limited to 8 seconds, 720p and landscape format.
— https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/14819770?hl=en - Keep the working project in Google Vids for team comments, and export MP4 only for final delivery.

Superseded by this¶
- 2025-05-20 — The AI avatar status "coming to Labs next month" is obsolete: Google announced general availability on 2025-08-27.
- 2025-06-25 — Treating Veo in Vids as text-to-video only is obsolete: image-to-video launched on 2025-08-27, and Veo 3.1 avatar directing followed on 2026-04-03.
- 2025-08-27 — Sticking to stock avatars is obsolete: custom appearance, clothing, environment and scene staging became available on 2026-04-03.
Still unknown¶
- The page https://docs.google.com/videos/ has no public timestamp and does not prove the change happened on 2026-04-04. The nearest primary confirmation is the Google Workspace update from 2026-04-03; we use it to date the 2026-04-04 event.
- Availability for Veo, avatars, Lyria and account limits depends on plan, region, language and administrator controls; check the account feature matrix before rollout.
