What it is¶
GeneX is a research pipeline for embodied-AI and world-model prototyping. It creates a 360° panorama from one image, generates forward panoramic video, rotates the view, and exports exploration clips. The released pair is a 12B BF16 initializer and a 2B FP16 explorer; the public interactive demo is paused. Use it for simulated-world experiments, not real-world navigation deployment.
Development line¶
- 2024-11-20 — GeneX shared an interactive demonstration. On 2024-11-20, GeneX linked an interactive demonstration of the project as a public hands-on milestone.
- 2024-12-16 — GeneX linked its project website. On 2024-12-16, GeneX linked its project website and referenced the earlier project message, establishing a public entry point after the interactive demonstration.
What changed¶
2024-11-20 — Generative World Explorer presented interactive exploration of a panorama-conditioned, video-generated environment.
2024-12-16 — GenEx added the missing world-initialization stage: a single RGB image and optional description become a 360° panorama before action-conditioned panoramic-video exploration.
Found today — the current official implementation is a local two-model workflow, with model cards updated on 2025-05-06.
How to use this¶
From 2024-11-20, practitioners could use GeneX through its linked interactive demonstration; by 2024-12-16, they could also use the linked project website as the public entry point for the project.
- Create a CUDA Python environment and install the inference dependencies listed by the project, including Diffusers, Transformers, PyTorch, Pillow, and video-export packages. — https://github.com/GenEx-world/genex/tree/main/code/inference
- Load World Initializer with one perspective image; it produces a 2048×1024 equirectangular panorama, with an optional text prompt for initialization. — https://huggingface.co/genex-world/World-Initializer-image-to-panorama
- Load World Explorer, set the generated panorama as its current image, and generate a forward video segment with the Explorer pipeline. — https://github.com/GenEx-world/genex/tree/main/code/inference
- Repeat forward moves and panorama rotations to explore a path, then export the result as MP4 or GIF. Use local GPUs because the hosted interactive demo is currently paused. — https://github.com/GenEx-world/genex
Best practices¶
- Use the two stages in order: Explorer expects a 360° panorama, so initialize one first rather than giving Explorer an ordinary perspective image. — https://github.com/GenEx-world/genex/tree/main/code/inference
- Begin from the documented Explorer baseline—1024×512, 25 frames, 30 inference steps, and noise augmentation 0.02—before changing controls. — https://github.com/GenEx-world/genex/tree/main/code/inference
- Constrain close-to-obstacle moves: the paper reports that commands moving excessively close to a wall can degrade subsequent generated frames. — https://arxiv.org/html/2412.09624v4
- For any real-world embodied workflow, treat generated views as simulated priors and retain sensor-based verification; sim-to-real transfer, sensor integration, dynamic conditions, and safeguards remain open challenges. — https://arxiv.org/html/2412.09624v4
Superseded by this¶
- 2024-11-20 — implementation guidance that starts from an already available panorama is incomplete for the later GeneX system; the December extension adds image-to-panorama world initialization before exploration.
Still unknown¶
- The November and December works are related: the December paper explicitly calls itself an extension of the November work. However, no first-party migration note maps the 2024 interactive-demo snapshot to a current code tag or checkpoint.
- No local runtime was performed. Required GPU memory, reproducibility of the full demo, and compatibility with current CUDA and Diffusers versions remain unverified.
- No first-party Simplified-Chinese user documentation was found in the checked sources; Chinese-language practical reports were not used.
