What it is¶

Meta AI is Meta's assistant for people using WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, the Meta AI app, and meta.ai.

• Web answers — answers questions, searches for web material, and summarizes it.
• Plans and research — makes plans and carries out research.
• Slides and media — creates them.
• Email and calendar — connects to them in some markets.
• Recurring tasks — performs them in some markets.

What changed¶

Meta AI's line runs from a separate multimodal research project to a consumer assistant. Meta has not confirmed a direct product successor relationship between CM3leon and the assistant.

Superseded by this¶

• 2023-07-17: Treating CM3leon as the current way to work with Meta AI is outdated. It is a research model, while today's assistant is a separate consumer product.
• 2025-04-29: Treating Meta AI only as a chatbot is outdated in supported markets. By 2026-07, Meta says it handles tasks, plans, research, slides, and some connections.
• 2025-03-19: Chat availability in Europe does not mean the same feature set everywhere. Current agent capabilities are still described as a selective rollout.

Still unknown¶

• The 2025-01-25 event has no URL or title in the available material, so its exact subject and change are not established. Meta's 2025-01-27 publication is listed separately and is not treated as that event.
• CM3leon and modern Meta AI may be two different subjects under the same Meta name: one is a research model, the other a consumer assistant. No evidence was found that CM3leon was deployed in Meta AI.
